Literary Criticism

Literary criticism is a technique that authors use in their works. It most likely is a discussion or evaluation of literature. The criticism can be either positive or negative towards the author, but it gives them a perspective on how to make their works better. Authors can have more than one meaning in their work, and we have to interpret what is trying to be said. As we read, we get a summary of the book and what it’s supposed to be about. When someone is criticized they can see what they need to write about more or less. Not only are authors critiqued, but also movies, books, magazines, and TV shows. When a show gets a negative review, they know the next time how to make it more interesting for viewers, to like it and relate to it more. In my opinion I think literary criticism can be very helpful because it gives you as a writer a better idea on how to make your work better and more engaging to the reader. When others evaluate your work they bring new ideas and new meanings to you which can be very helpful. Even though many people do not like to be critiqued, they can later on benefit from it.

New Jouralism

New Journalism was a style of writing which was first used in the 1960s. New journalism was literary techniques that were not really accepted by many other authors of this time. Tom Wolfe published his first new journalism article in 1963. New journalism brought new approaches to areas of writing. Authors soon started to use his new technique of writing, because it was seen as very helpful. In my opinion new journalism is a great way of writing, not only for the writer but the readers. Huxley Footnote

Aldous Huxley is a famous author who wrote The Doors of Perception in which he explains his use of mescalin. Mescaline is a hallucinogen obtained from a small, spineless cactus Peyote. In earlier times it was used for traditional religious reasons. (http://www.drugs.com/mescaline.html) Huxley instead used it for a more different reason; he said that everyone should take “chemical vacations”. I agree with Huxley that everyone at a point might need a break from reality and there busy lives. Which to Huxley’s break was the excessive use of mescalin, not everyone may agree with the way he did it, but everyone has there own way of dealing with life.

Abstract: Chewing Gum Can Improve Memory.

New research shows that chewing gum can improve your memory. One of the first studies they did was in 2002, researchers took seventy five adults and split them into three different groups. The first group chewed gum for a twenty minute test of memory and attention. The second group mimicked the chewing, and the third group didn't chew at all. Researchers found that people who chewed gum scored better on long term and short term memory tests. The explanation for these findings are the brain activity in the hippo campus increases while people chew. So this might be a factor in improved memory. Also chewing can increase heart rate and increase blood flow which delivers more oxygen to the brain. A recent study in 2009 stated that not only gum improves memory but any type of candy. They had students volunteer to test whether word recall was improved chewing gum or cinnamon candy. Cubism

Cubism is a form of art that was developed in the 1900's in France by Picasso and Georges Braque. Cubism has been neglected and misunderstood by many people of that generation and generations to come. This new style of art seemed to be confusing to the general people, but it would soon become the new future of art. It was seen by many artists as challenging to master, it is very spontaneous and unique. Artist wanted to express more of there own ideas into there work, since no one has seen this style they didn’t understand it. The random forms and shapes that are broken up onto a two dimensional surface, was something that not many artist knew how to do. The cubism movement grew more rapidly and many new forms of cubism started to evolve. Cubism is a important part of the art world and many artist use this technique today.
